In the series Unsolicited, Paul recreates the online act of solicitation for sex. His Technobabble represents a screen of smartphone technology, through which the viewer is solicited for sex. An intricate web of technobabble stands between viewer and image. The nude selfie has become a phenomenon in recent years, pervading gay and straight dating culture. Legislators have only begun to criminalize this behavior. The same photograph might be sent consensually or in this case non-consensually as an unwelcome assault. The Unsolicited paintings challenges our understanding of consent, context, and criminality by presenting the viewer images which were, in their original intent, unsolicited.
